The first-year nursing student's second semester develops knowledge and skills as they relate to adult non-critical, moderately complex medical-surgical patients. This course focuses on the care of adult clients with health alterations that require medical and/or surgical intervention. Emphasis is placed on the care of clients with alterations in selected body functions. Through the nursing process the student recognizes alterations in status and formulates age-appropriate care. Concepts of client centered care, cultural sensitivity, informatics, safe practice, and professionalism are integrated throughout the course.
