ESL Level 1, Certificate of Competency
Students accomplish listening, speaking, reading and writing in English at a beginning low level. Language skills are increased to seek and apply for jobs, fill out basic health forms, pay bills, and make purchases. Students better their understanding of the English language to continue their academic endeavors.

- Speak and write simple sentences using the present tense including the verb “to be”. For example: "I am in class. I have a book."
- Orally respond to personal information questions in present tense, (using who, what, where, when, and how).
- Write simple sentences in proper word order including appropriate capitalization.
- Demonstrate listening skills to follow directions related to simple workplace needs.
