Computer Information Systems, Associate of Science Degree (AS): Emphasis in System Administration
Computer Information Systems (CIS) provides students with a broad background in the application of computers to the emerging needs of business and industry. CIS courses prepare students for entry-level positions in computer programming, systems analysis, computer operations and network management, information systems management, and sales and technical information positions.
Associate Degree Graduation Requirements
Complete all of the following:
- All Department Requirements listed below with a “C” or better or “P” in each course (at least 20% of the department requirements must be completed through SBCC).
- A minimum of 18 units of SBCC General Education Requirements (Areas A-D) and Institutional Requirements (Area E) and Information Competency Requirement (Area F)
- A total of 60 degree-applicable units (SBCC courses numbered 100 and higher).
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better in all units attempted at SBCC.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better in all college units attempted.
- A total of 12 units through SBCC.

- Describe the role of and explains the value of operating systems, network technologies and system administration in IT.
- Participate on an IT team at multiple levels, from help desk specialist, to system administrator, to project leader on system implementation.
- Select and implement appropriate operating system and network technologies for an organization or business enterprise.
