IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT AP SCIENCES FROM Cal-GETC STANDARDS: AP exams in Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, or Physics 2 allow CCC campuses to apply 4 semester or 5 quarter units to Cal-GETC Area 5 certification. AP exams in Environmental Science, Physics C: Mechanics and Physics C: Electricity/Magnetism only allow CCC campuses to apply 3 semester or 4 quarter units to Cal-GETC certification; all students must meet the minimum unit requirements for Cal-GETC Area 5 (Physical and Biological Sciences) for a total of 7 semester or 9 quarter units). Therefore, students who complete the AP exams in Environmental Science, Physics C: Mechanics and Physics C: Electricity/Magnetism exams will be required to complete at least 4 semester or 5 quarter units to satisfy the minimum required units for Cal-GETC Area 5.
- 2
Students who take the Calculus BC examination and earn a sub-score of 3 or higher on the Calculus AB portion will receive 4 quarter (2.6 semester) units for the Calculus AB examination, even if they do not receive a score of 3 or higher on the BC examination (note that the maximum credit awarded for both exams is 8 quarter (5.3 semester) units.
- 3
For transfer students AP exams can be used to meet the minimum transfer admission subject requirements in English (UC-E), math (UC-M), and four other courses chosen from the humanities (UC-H), behavioral/social sciences (UC-B) and biological/physical sciences (UC-S).
- 4
Only one of the two English courses required for transfer admission may be satisfied with an AP exam score.
Other Notes:
- The Minimum CSU Transferable Semester Units Awarded count toward eligibility for admission only to the CSU system. The units may not apply towards Associate Degrees for Transfer (AD-T) or the baccalaureate degree at the CSU.
- Music Theory sub-score: The UC system grants credit for the full Music Theory exam. Students who earn only a sub-score will not receive exam credit.
- Duplication with College Courses: Students should be advised that college courses taken before or after attending UC may duplicate AP, IB, and/or A-Level examinations. Additionally, exams may duplicate each other (for example, an AP or IB exam in the same subject area). If the student does duplicate an exam with another exam of the same subject content and/or an exam with a college course, UC will award credit only once.

Consult each individual UC and CSU campus website for more information on their campus-specific AP policy and to find out how AP scores are applied to each major at each of the campuses.
